Policy Recommendations Presented to the 80th Texas Legislature

The 2006 Community College Financial Aid Policy Summit, held April 18 in Austin, Texas, was a productive meeting for community colleges in Texas. Participants at the Summit discussed issues pressing to the two-year community and outlined policy recommendations, which could be submitted to the 80th Texas Legislature House and Senate Higher Education Committees.

This set of recommendations aims to streamline the Toward EXcellence, Access and Success (TEXAS) Grant and Texas Educational Opportunity Grant (TEOG) so that the financial aid needs of students attending two-year public institutions are better met. Moreover, these recommendations offer more ways to better align the TEXAS Grant and TEOG financial aid programs in a manner that will most effectively allow the state to meet the goals set forth in Closing the Gaps.
